LADONDO JOHNSON CHENIER

LaDondo Johnson Chenier was born on May 20, 1950 in Los Angeles, California to the late Ernest and Melvina Adams. “Donna,” as she was affectionately called by all that loved her, was the first of three beautiful daughters born to this union.

Raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, Donna accepted Christ at an early age and grew up an active member of Williams Memorial C.M.E. Temple, Shreveport, La. It was there that she met her first husband, James Johnson Jr., although their union ended, it produced her greatest blessing, her only son Felix Johnson. In 2004, she re-married and was a loving wife to Joseph Chenier.

Donna graduated from Notre Dame High School in Shreveport in 1968. She studied at Southern University at Shreveport and after moving to Houston, she received an Associate Degree from Houston Community College in 2005. She continued her studies at the University of Houston while remaining in the Houston area.

Early in her professional career, Donna dutifully worked at Brown and Root Industrial Services. However, her love for children eventually led her to a career in education. She faithfully served as a teacher’s assistant in the Fort Bend Independent School District for many years until health challenges caused an early retirement.

Donna will be remembered as the family’s steadfast picture collector, thrifty coupon cutter, thoughtful letter writer and powerful prayer warrior. Anyone who knew her was touched by her compassion, patience and kindness. She was the epitome of selflessness. She loved unconditionally and was truly a caretaker.

More than anything, she will be remembered for her commitment to Christ. She was a long-time, dedicated member of Brentwood Baptist Church in Houston and subsequently, The Fort Bend Church in Sugar Land, Texas. Donna loved the Lord, and she honored His teachings by helping others, whenever and however possible. She unfailingly sang His praises and faithfully spread His gospel. She was a devoted Christian who read her Bible daily and shared her deep Biblical appreciation with all that she met.

God called Donna home on September 26, 2021, reuniting her with her beloved parents. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joseph Chenier; adored son Felix Johnson (Theresa) of Fresno, Texas; sisters, Devette Adams of Missouri City and Gayla Jenkins (Rhondal) of Katy, Texas; brother, Ray Jackson of Shreveport La.; nieces Tasha Murray (Roderick) of Manvel, Texas and La Chanda Ricks (Marcus) Missouri City; nephew Rondrick Jenkins (April) of Richmond, Texas; and a host of cherished great nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins and friends.
