James Lawrence

James Avery Lawrence Jr., 67, passed away on March12, 2024 in Sugar Land, TX. Jim died as he wished, at home surrounded by family.

Son of James and Anne Lawrence, he was born August 11, 1956, in Atlanta, GA. For most of his career Jim worked in grocery retail. Many of our vacations included visits to the local grocery stores to, “check out their setup.” During his retirement years he enjoyed the flexibility to go where he wanted when he wanted.  He spent many Fridays and Saturdays at the ball fields with his grandsons, tons of weekends at birthday parties for all the grands and loved family dinners including the weekly trips to Gary’s to get home cooking.  It is a toss-up as to whether he loved the meals or the time with Amelia more.  He loved rooting for the Astros and the annual trip to the game with Gary.  He loved dogs of all kinds and was requesting visits from his grand dogs in his final days.

He was preceded to heaven by his mother Anne and father James, aunts and uncles, and his beloved wife, Terri Saxton Lawrence. He is survived by his siblings: Iris Knowles of Vermont, Paula Primm of Wisconsin and Mike Lawrence of Texas; his children: Kelly Carlisle of Toccoa, GA, and husband Jerry, Megan Butler of Missouri City, TX, and husband David, Gary Lawrence of Houston, TX , and wife Desirae; Eight grandchildren: Clayton Carlisle, Parker Carlisle, Karalee Bull Bear, Zachary Carlisle, Conner Sonnen, Avery Butler, Sutton Butler, and Amelia Lawrence.

Jim was a deeply beloved father, uncle, brother, grandfather, and friend. His passing was expected but quick, just like he always hoped it would be.

What he loved most of all was his wife, Terri.  Since her passing he has wanted nothing more than to be with her.  We who are left here to mourn him are taking solace in the fact that he and Terri are together again.
