Jewel Ashley

Jewel Martha Ashley (née Bowie) peacefully went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2024, in Sugarland, Texas, at the age of 88. She was born on June 21, 1935, in Wildsville, Louisiana.

Jewel was a loving and outgoing person who never met a stranger. She found joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jewel had a special gift for nurturing and caring for children, making everyone she cared for feel like family. Her home was always open, and she often offered you a glass of her signature iced tea when you visited. She was a collector of friends and roosters, which adorned her home.

She is survived by her daughters, Victoria Fowler (Douglas) and Sheryl Elaine Maxie (Ray); five sisters: Irma Beavers, Marvis Jean O’Neal, Faye Bowie, Juanita Bowie, and Marilyn Rogers; and one brother Donald Bowie (Frankie); grandchildren Alicia Allen, Candice Mays (Rhyan), Erica Fowler, and LaFoscia Maxie; great-grandchildren Lauryn Maxie, Caleb, Maxie, Jackson Maxie, Bryce Allen, Kylie Hogue, Blake Mays, and Brielle Mays.

Many nieces and nephews and countless relatives and friends.

Jewel was preceded in death by her parents Billie and Thelma Bowie; siblings Richard, Myron Dale, Alfred, Doretha Moore, Joel (Louise), and Clyde Bowie; and grandson, Christopher Allen Maxie.

Jewel worshipped for many years at Brentwood Baptist Church and later was a member of The Fort Bend Church in Sugarland, Texas.

The Sugarland Mortuary, 1818 Eldridge Road, Sugarland, Texas 77478, is assisting the family with arrangements.

May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.

    My condolences to my family aunt mommyee….was the sweetest auntie a girl could have the best cook a niece could have your cold salads was the best your macaroni salad I lived for at the family gatherings. Rest Easy auntie you will greatly be missed I Love You.

    Mama you are going to be greatly missed by so many people that has crossed your path in life but one thing I can say is that you was the best auntie anybody ever could have had in her life and you were the love of my life and I am proud to have been blessed to have been able to call you my auntie for all of these years 😘♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🥰🥰🥰like my sister Felicia Cannon said you were the best and your cooking will be missed especially the spaghetti salad 🤣🤣🤣
