Thomas Joseph Yungvirt

Thomas Joseph Yungvirt, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on April 06, 2024, at the age of 61.

Tom, born to Charles and Frances Yungvirt, was the youngest of six children raised in Cleveland, Ohio.

A 30-year career with The Men’s Wearhouse initially took Tom from Ohio to Northern California (where he met the love of his life and his future wife, Karon) and finally to Sugar Land, Texas, where he and Karon were eventually joined by their children and five grandchildren.

Although, thousands of miles from Cleveland, Tom’s love for his hometown sports teams never wavered. In 2016, Tom attended game 2 of the World Series in Cleveland with his father in chilly, 40-degree weather.

While Tom was a creature of habit (he loved Judge Judy, Cops, and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives), he was also no stranger to adventure. Tom went sky diving (once and never again), road a Harley for several years (until he dropped it and then immediately sold it) and enjoyed many road trips across the country with Karon as his co-pilot (Route 66, Mt. Rushmore, Niagara Falls and Nashville to name a few).

Tom kept an immaculately clean house. His front yard and annual Christmas light displays were the envy of the neighborhood. When his hat was on backwards and jazz music was playing, you knew that he meant business and got out of his way.

Tom loved to cook, woodwork, drink beer (and whiskey), tell jokes, give the most painful, yet enjoyable back rubs. He made friends everywhere he went. His laugh was one of a kind and his smile would light up a room. He adored his wife, kids, grandchildren and his dog, Sammy, and will be remembered for the great husband, dad, Papa and friend that he was.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Frances Yungvirt. He is survived by his wife, Karon, his children, Shaun (Stacy), Trisha (Trevor), his five grand children (Zoey, Audrey, Cameron, Peighton and Rylee), his three sisters, Elizabeth Krolikowski (Timothy), Margaret Missler (Steven), Annemarie Hainen (Mark), and his two brothers, Charles (Kimberly) and David (Jamie).

Please join us to honor and remember the life of Thomas Yungvirt at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479, Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 10:00am. The Mass will be followed immediately by a Celebration of Life, which will take place at the home of Tom and Karon at 1519 Hidden Terrace Drive, Sugar Land, TX 77479; lunch will be provided.

Sincere condolences to the family. I am so very sorry for your loss. May God provide the necessary peace and comfort to your family and friends during this difficult time. Please remember these words of encouragement from the Bible: “Jesus plainly told her: I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” —John 11:20-25.
